I thought you might find it interesting to know just how Kathleen's Bridal came to be. I was going to college to finish a degree in Small Business Management and had always wanted to run my own business, being the entrepreneural spirit that I am, and my hometown of Harrisburg, Illinois had not had a bridal store for some years.
Let's talk about bridesmaids shopping. Besides their own dress, its one of the most exciting shopping experiences for the bride and her bridal party, as well it should be. It will be helpful to know a few of the things that over the years we have learned in dealing with hundreds of bridal parties. Picking a bridesmaids dress is very different from just pulling a dress off the rack at a department store.
The first of the year starts the peak season for bridal shopping. Because it takes such a long time to order a gown, it is necessary to start shopping for your bridal gown at least 9 to 12 months ahead of the wedding. Normal shipping time for a wedding gown is five to six months, and longer if custom changes are made. You will want to allow another sixty days for any alterations that may be necessary to assure a perfect fit.
Remember that when getting measured for the gown, the gown will not be custom made to your measurements. The consultant is simply determining what size will closet fit you, thereby eliminating as many alterations as possible. Most brides will need a hem and a bustle for the train at the very least, however. Also remember that you are not the only bride getting married at this time, and you will have to get in line in order to get a fitting appointment. We recommend that you make your appointment 60 to 90 days ahead of the wedding and pick up your gown at least two weeks ahead of the wedding in order to eliminate any last minute stress on yourself.
Kathleen's Bridal carries several lines of bridesmaids dresses and has hundreds of sample dresses in stock for your girls to try on. Most dresses are available in a wide array of colors and your consultant will help you choose the one that is closest to the color you had in mind for your wedding.
We suggest that you initially bring only a couple of your maids with you to pick out the dress style, perhaps one of the smallest girls and one of the larger girls so that you can make a selection that will be ideal for all of the girls in your wedding party. Also too many opinions can tend to confuse the situation, and it is after all your wedding and it is your opinion that matters most. If you have several girls for all size ranges, it can often be the most flattering to let each girl pick out her own style, and simply keep them all in the same color and fabric.
